Poole Hospital

Aztec Solar Energy was approached by Centrica Business Solutions to design and install a 202.1 kWp solar PV installation on the roof of Poole Hospital in Dorset. As part of the pledge by the NHS to reduce their carbon footprint and work towards Net Zero, funding was put towards a sustainability program for the hospital. Adding solar PV to properties can have multiple benefits, including improving the EPC, increasing the attractiveness to new tenants and potentially increasing property value.

Project Overview

Our client had a keen interest in increasing their sustainability program and reducing their carbon footprint. Like many businesses, the most cost-effective way to do this is through a solar PV system. It was imperative that extra care was taken throughout this project due to the sensitive nature of the hospital environment. We worked hard to get this project concluded and handed over to our client as swiftly as possible and had a Project Manager stationed onsite each day overseeing the project, ensuring minimal disruption to the hospital’s ongoings.

System Details

Our client was looking to maximise their return of investment and install the most suitable system for the hospital. We installed 470 Trina Solar panels, along with 6 SolarEdge inverters, which allow for module-to-module optimisation and management. Opting for SolarEdge technology was important for this project, as it offers additional safety features, particularly firefighter gateways and switches which are critical for the healthcare sector.

Results

The system is expected to save 41.56 tonnes of carbon per annum, equivalent to planting around 1,909 trees.
